8 Things in Your Home You Should Start Vacuuming

8 Things in Your Home You Should Start VacuumingIn the middle of cleaning your floors? Don’t put that vacuum away just yet. Here are 8 things in your home that you’re likely forgetting to vacuum.

Refrigerator coils

Vacuuming your refrigerator coils is actually essential to keeping your fridge running efficiently. You should aim to vacuum them twice a year—so every six months or so. Coils will be located on the back of older refrigerators, but these days you’ll usually find the coils located at the bottom of your fridge (usually at the front), behind a removable panel.

Knife block

Staying in the kitchen for a moment, have you ever considered just how many crumbs are probably lingering in your kitchen knife block? You can easily use a vacuum fitted with a crevice cleaner tool to get all of that debris out.

Window treatments

Window treatments require extra attention during cleaning, as you want to make sure you don’t break any of the working mechanisms, such as the blind pulley, plantation shutter louver, etc. Try dusting them on a monthly basis using a low suction vacuum fitted with a brush attachment. You can use this technique on horizontal blinds, vertical blinds, shutters, or shades. This technique is also great for keeping your window curtains free of dust and dirt in between washes.

Windowsill

While you’re on your window treatments, it’s a good idea to hit the windowsill as well. You’ll get rid of not only dust but also allergens like pollen and other contaminants, which may have floated in from the outdoors.

Bedskirts

While you should throw your bedskirts in the laundry for a good cleaning every couple of months or so, it’s a good idea to vacuum them with a brush attachment in between washes. Just do it whenever you happen to be vacuuming the surrounding floor area in order to keep dust and dirt to a minimum.

Entertainment center

Electronics tend to gather dust like no other, making the space behind your entertainment center especially prone to dust. Try turning off all of these electronics and gently vacuuming around these cords about once a month to keep the area free of dust. (Don’t forget to gently vacuum your speaker ducts as well!)

Computer keyboard

Here’s another thing that often sees an accumulation of crumbs and other debris in the crevices. Give your keyboard a quick once-over using a low suction vacuum that is fitted with a crevice cleaning attachment.

Broom

And finally, don’t forget about the other thing you use to clean your floors—your broom. Brooms gather dust, hair, and all sort of other debris over time, and this is most easily removed with a vacuum.
