How to Bring the Outdoors Into Your Home this Spring

How to Bring the Outdoors Into Your Home this SpringEarlier this month we talked about 5 Simple Ways to Brighten Up Your Kitchen, and now that spring is here, it’s time to bring even more cheer into the home by giving it a good dose of spring decor. Here are some easy ways to bring spring into your home this season.

Fresh Flowers

This great go-to option is popular for a reason; fresh flowers are a beautiful and clean way to bring the outdoors indoors, and with so many flower varieties to choose from, you’ll never become bored with your floral decor. Consider crafting a fresh floral centerpiece for your dinner table, or set them on various surfaces throughout your home to give it a garden-like feel.

Indoor Planters

Do you have a favorite herb like mint or cilantro that you always seem to be using in your recipes in the kitchen? Try keeping some fresh herbs in small pots artfully placed along a windowsill in your kitchen; or you could even install a rod to fit along the width of your window so that you can hang on it small, hanging planters for your herbs.

A Terrarium

Terrariums (“earth aquariums”) are special sealed (or open) globe-like containers with plants growing within them that seem to recall an academic aesthetic from decades past. To create a terrarium yourself, take any globe-like glass container and cover the bottom with smooth rocks or pebbles, then add a thin layer of activated charcoal (to help fend off bacteria and mold) followed by a layer of potting soil. Then place small plants such as ferns, succulents, and moss in your makeshift terrarium as desired.

Moss Covered Votives

Moss has a great way of reminding us of Easter baskets and at the same time beautiful, wild outdoor scenery. Add an unexpected element from nature to your candles by gently wrapping and glueing small bits of moss around clear candle votives.

Seasonal Produce in the Kitchen

Displaying fresh produce (the kind that is best stored out on the counter, of course) is a great way to decorate the kitchen, so why not opt for in-season spring produce? Eating seasonally can also put you in the spring mood and save you some money while you’re at it. Some examples of fruits that are in-season are bananas, apricots, honeydew melon, strawberries, and mangoes. Vegetables? Lettuce, cabbage, green beans, peas, spring onion, radishes, and spinach.
