Easter Decorations Made Easy

Bring Easter in to your homeIf you love to be festive, Easter is a great time to decorate the home, especially the outside of the house and all the windows.  The weather has usually lost its sting from the bitter cold, snow has melted, flowers are budding.  It is a great time to be outside, working in the yard and beautifying your home.  Before you do any Easter window decorating, be sure to clean the windows.  You don’t want to be staring at the decorations from the inside or the outside and get side tracked with all the dirt on the glass!  It’s also a good time to rinse down the window sills, shutters, and the walls.

Once you have a clean canvas, it’s time to decorate!  Virtually every big box or discount store you enter will have a wide array of decorations available for purchase.   From lights and illuminated signs to large banners and statues, there are prions for just about any style.  Easter and springtime decorations can be as big as Christmas or Halloween.

If you prefer to make your own decorations, your creativity is the limit.  Home made decorations can make your home look fabulous.  One favorite is an egg garland.  Using plastic easter eggs,  Poke a hole (better yet, the cheaper eggs already have holes in the top and bottom!) through the top and bottom and string them up on a string long enough to have it drape over the windows.  Several strings of eggs (each one just a bit shorter than the first) can give off a tiered garland.  It may be a good idea to also place a small drop of glue on the egg, to keep the egg from becoming separated.  Put an accent ribbon in the center of the sway, and you will have an impressive swag.  A few pieces of colored ribbon, cut about a foot long, can hang out past the last egg for some more color.

If the eggs are too much work, you can also make an egg-shaped paper chain.  Pastel colored construction paper or poster board can be cut out into egg shapes and attached to a string or ribbon.  For a bit more flare, visit your local paint supplier and pick up paint sample cards in a blend of pastel colors.  Cut egg shapes out of the paint sample cards.  If the cards have multiple colors, try cutting out the egg shape such that both colors are on the egg.

You can also use the eggs, plastic or paper, and make a wreath.  Glue several together in a circle.  Keep adding to it until it has the right width and shape.

If you don’t have little children or sugar loving dogs, you can take some “peeps” and put them into the bottom of an egg carton.  The resulting effect is some chickens in a roost.

The list goes on and on.  Pinterest and other websites are great places to get great ideas.  The important thing is to remember to have fun and enjoy yourself.  The decorations are only up for a few weeks; enjoy them while you can!
